Life Balance - A Tune Up

Lori Koch

Does your life feel in balance? I’m asking about your work, marriage, family, and self care.

Your car tires need to be in balance. When all areas of the wheel-tire unit are as equal in weight as possible, the tire will roll smoothly. Balancing contributes to ride comfort. Imbalanced tires can lead to vibration, excessive tire wear, and damage. Tire balancing corrects uneven distribution of weight. (I googled it.)

Let’s think about the four tires of our lives; work, marriage, family and self care. Are they running smoothly contributing to a smooth comfortable life? Is it time for a Life Balance Tune-up?

I am not suggesting that each ‘tire’ of our life would be filled with the same amount of time or be the same size. But I do know what it feels like to live out of balance. It is just like imbalanced tires that cause excessive wear and damage. I may not feel a vibration like a car, but I do feel stressed, anxious, short tempered, irritable, and exhausted. (Don’t tell my husband I admitted this.) When a car is vibrating you call the mechanic. When life is ‘vibrating’, you need adjust the balance.

To do a Life Balance Tune-up: Look at your day, week or month ahead. Do you have some time in there for each area of your life? Focused time, not multi-tasking time? I am talking about quality time! Quality time that refuels the ‘tire’ in each area. You can recognize quality time by how you feel afterwards. You had fun, feel refreshed, shared love, have energy, or are just smiling. Which area needs to be adjusted? Make a plan so that your life can start rolling smoothly, again.
